Goodbye to Vicente Darder (Rusty)

In November '07 we said goodbye to Vicente Darder - Assistant Beaver leader Rusty who was returning with his family to his homeland of Spain and we presented Vicente with a card and photo of the colony to remind him of his time with the 83rd Scout Group.

Activities with the other Group Sections

In January the Cub section invited the Beavers Founder's Day Parade and Church Service to one of their meeting nights where we had bases galore experiments, senses, craft, skills and finished with juice and a biscuit which they had decorated themselves at one of the bases. A fun night but it also let our Beavers meet and get to know the Cub Leaders and Cubs.

We have also had some of the older Scouts coming along to our meetings and they have shared their scouting experiences with us including the Scout camp at Hampshire 007and diving in the Red Sea. They have assisted with craft and games in fact any activity the Beavers may be doing.

Every week we have assistance from Explorers doing the Service Section of their Duke of Edinburgh Awards. The Explorers help with the programme planning and have over the last year ran several complete evenings including the Swedish meeting, DOE Hike evening and a Indoor Campfire night. Their skills are invaluable when the Beavers go up the woods and require fires to cook their toast and marshmallows on.

Thank you to all who have assisted us over the last year we hope you have enjoyed being at Beavers as much as we have appreciated your help.

Beavers in the Community

Beavers enjoy getting out of the hall and over the year we have been visiting some local places. We have been up to visit the restored Watch House having previously followed the new Cairneyhill Heritage Trail.

We had a visit to the Church and Graveyard as part of our Faith badge and were again at the church for our Founder's Day service having paraded with the village's other uniformed organisations from the scout hall. We also make good use of Hilton Woods in both the summer and for torch walks in the darker months.

The older Beavers also plant up our Beaver tub in the Main Street and all Beavers over the summer months each take a week of watering and caring for our tub.

Badges

At our weekly programmes our Beavers are able to do all the Challenge badges available to them. Over the year we have also tackled the Scottish Challenge badge, The Health and Fitness, Hobbies, Experiment, Air Activities, Safety, Imagination and Faith badges. All of our Beavers swimming up to Cubs over the last year have also gained their Chief Scout Bronze Awards. We also offer the opportunity to do the Hike 1 badge prior to swimming up to Cubs.

Thanks

We receive so much help from so many people allowing us to offer a varied and fun weekly programme to our Beavers. The list is too long to name individuals but please be assured any assistance given over the last year has been really appreciated.

At present Beavers is full but names can be put on the waiting list when age 5.
